TALENTED 15-year-old footballer Maddison Newell has earned a spot in the GWV Rebels.
Newell, a year nine student at Cobden Technical School, was chosen as part of a 24-member squad following recent try-outs in Ararat.
“It’s really exciting to get into the team,” Newell said.
“I went to the try-outs over the last school holidays with a couple of other girls I knew and I was pretty happy with how I went."
“I found out just over a week ago that I’d made the team.”
Newell will head to Ararat on August 29, September 5 and 12 for training sessions with the under 15 squad.
The team will then compete in the V-Line Cup in Shepparton on September 19 and 20.
“I’m not quite sure what position I’ll be playing just yet but I played in the backline during the try-outs so maybe that’s the spot for me,” Newell said.
“Either way I’ll just be happy to run out there.”
Newell spent this past season playing for the Terang Mortlake Bloods and previously spent time with the Cobden club.
She has been “kicking the footy” since she was about 10 years-old.
And as for her future footy, Newell is keen to one day play AFLW with Geelong.
