Night market a success
ONE local business’ annual night market has made a significant contribution to a worthy cause.
The Camperdown Nursery and Mart’s annual Night Market was held last Friday and raised $10,200 for prostate cancer research.
Night market organiser Bec Mitchell said the fundraising effort was “absolutely amazing”.
“We had a massive crowd on the night, so for everyone to get around such an amazing cause and event was great,” she said.
“All the local shops, and everyone that donated to let us raise that amount, it’s definitely an amazing feeling to be a part of that.”
The market featured a variety of stalls along Ware Street next to the Nursery and Mart, as well as activities for children.
An auction was run on the night, with winners receiving goods donated by other Camperdown businesses and the opportunity to shave the heads of Benny Schaap and a store worker who agreed to shave his head on the night.
Highlights of the night included a wood chop conducted by Dylan and Robbo Robinson and live music provided by Ian “Bidge” Boyd.
Ms Mitchell said the prostate cancer cause was close to her heart.
“Someone who is really close to us at the shop unfortunately, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer,” she said.
“To have a cause that’s close to the shop, was an easy pick for us this year.
“The whole night was based around prostate cancer.
“The south west is a bit of a hotspot for it, so everyone please go get checked. Get tested and diagnosed early; it’s the best way.”
Ms Mitchell extended her gratitude to all those who supported the fundraiser,
“A big thank you to everyone that was involved; it was a big night, and a lot goes on behind the scenes to get it organised and set up,” she said.
“The local businesses and the support that we had definitely made the night possible, which was amazing.”
