Night of nights for Cobden Angling Club
COBDEN Angling Club Inc held its annual presentation night recently.
Club president Bryan Poole welcomed those in attendance to the evening.
There were numerous apologies and he thanked members from the Curdievale and Purrumbete angling clubs along with Corangamite Shire Councillor Jo Beard for coming along to the club’s special night.
Mr Poole congratulated all trophy winners on their success throughout the year.
He said the club faced numerous challenges with the weather during the year, hoping the coming year would be kinder to members.
Mr Poole made particular mention of the trophy donors.
“We are very lucky to receive fantastic support from local business groups and our members,” he said.
“You make this night the success that it is.”
Club secretary Les Blake announced the trophy winners, with Cr Beard presenting them.

B Nelson: club trip number three, heaviest bream;
A Rantall: heaviest rainbow trout for the year, club trip number seven in a boat - rainbow trout; club trip number 12 heaviest fish;
M Merrett: heaviest fish from the bank, Nelson trip a bream;
I Scott: club trip number seven heaviest fish from the bank bream;
R Smith: club trip number four heaviest fish Redfin and club trip number 10 heaviest fish the bank a bream;
D Gibbons: club trip number 11 heaviest estuary perch and heaviest estuary perch for the year;
D Staggard: heaviest Redfin for the year, heaviest tiger trout, club trip number six heaviest fish for man a Redfin, club trip number 12 heaviest fish from the bank a bream and heaviest total weight on club trips.
B Poole: heaviest bream for the year, heaviest sweep for the year, club trip number eight heaviest fish a bream, club trip number 11 heaviest fish in a boat a bream and club trip number 14 heaviest fish in salt a sweep.

Special Trophies:
Mounsey Memorial heaviest fish in Lake Elingamite winner A Rantall;
Cow Cocky’s Cup winner D Staggard, a bream.
King of Elingamite winner D Staggard, a Redfin;
Lakeside Challenge fished at Peterborough Ballarat won the salt section with a salmon and J Boyd from Cobden won the fresh section with a bream; and
Warrnambool Timber Industry trophy was won once again by Curdievale
Cr Beard congratulated the club on its achievements.
“You are to be praised for your recent acquisition of your ride on mower,” she said.
“Your persistence in applying for grants as well as your fund raising is a credit to the club.”
Mr Poole then thanked everyone for coming along to the night and then announced that all juniors would receive a bag of goodies from the club.
“Remember, we hold meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at our clubrooms at Lake Elingamite and you’re all welcome to attend,” he said.
