Nominations open for council hopefuls

NOMINATIONS for the Victorian local council elections opened this week, with those wanting to stand for their local government urged to get their nominations lodged before the deadline next week.

Prospective candidates have until 12noon Tuesday, September 17 to lodge their nomination and submit their candidate statements, photos and questionnaires.

“If you would like to represent your community, I encourage you to nominate as a candidate in these elections,” electoral commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.

“If you are thinking about standing for election, make sure to confirm your eligibility and complete the mandatory online candidate training through Local Government Victoria before lodging your nomination.

“This includes candidates who are currently or have previously been a councillor.”

Candidates must make an appointment during business hours with the election manager to lodge their nomination forms and pay their $250 nomination fee.

Nominations must be lodged by 12noon on Tuesday, September 17.

Late nominations cannot be accepted.

More information on nominating as a candidate is available at vec.vic.gov.au/council-candidate.
