A CARAMUT footballer, injured during an on-field clash at Derrinallum last weekend, is now resting at home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Talented on-baller for the Swans, Daniel Simpson, was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital following an accidental head clash with his Demons opponent during the final term of the Mininera League reserves match on Saturday.

Daniel was admitted for scans and further observation before being released from hospital on Tuesday night and is now recuperating at home.

Caramut club president Andrew Hassettpraised the efforts of off-duty nurse Sally Turner who rendered assistance, along with officials from both clubs who assisted until paramedics arrived.

“We as a club are very grateful to all those who helped immediately following the incident, and to the paramedics who were extreme professional and kind; it’s always a relief when you see them arrive,” he said.

“There was no malice involved at all (on-field) and everyone at the ground rallied to do all they could at the time.”

Mr Hassett expressed his club’s gratitude to Lismore Derrinallum club president Tim Turner and all at the ground for their professional care and the respectful way in whichDaniel and his family and team-mates were treated.

“Daniel, his partner and family are all valued members of our club both on and off the ground and we as a club will continue to offer them all the support they need.”

Given the time that had lapsed between the incident and the air ambulance leaving the ground, the seniors match was abandoned.

“The helicopter was on the ground for about two hours so the game was called off,” Mr Hassett said.

“At the end of the day it’s all about the welfare of all players; that’s what’s paramount.”
