CAMPERDOWN Cycling Club juniors made an exciting return to racing last week.
A field of 14 contested the first race of the season last Thursday, with Ollie West and Ava Cunningham battling it out for victory.
The pair rode strongly together before a sprint to the finish saw Ollie cross the line ahead of Ava to take the win.
Taj Cunningham was next across the line in third and officials say he will be keen to try and place in front of his sister in the weeks to come.
In fact officials are expecting numerous healthy rivalries to develop between siblings after they confirmed all the older siblings were beaten by their younger siblings in the event, except Abbey Taylor
who placed in front of her younger brother Liam.
Rosie Pickles had the honour of the fastest time for the first week, producing a strong showing despite her seat slipping down in the race to finish in 10 minutes and 26 seconds.
She finished a second quicker than Oliver Clark, with officials also expecting the close result to spur Oliver on in coming events.
Results:
1st - Ollie West 13.39
2nd - Ava Cunningham 12.40
3rd - Taj Cunningham 11.09
Fastest time – Rosie Pickles 10.25
Other times - Abbey Taylor 12.09; Quinn Clark 13.20; Zane Vogels 11.24; Oliver Clark 10.26; Zack Regan 12.33; Liam Taylor 15.41; Mason Narik 13.42; Lewis Regan 10.50; and Josh Thompson 13.08.
With the new season under way and as part of COVID protocols, officials are asking riders to register the day before each event via the Camperdown Cycling Club Facebook page.
Each rider is then requested to attend the Camperdown Saleyards ready to race at 5.30pm on race day.
Riders require a Cycling Australia race starter membership or a full membership to participate, with new riders welcome.
