On the move for vital fundraising

KOLORA’S Megan Bridger-Darling and a furry friend are on the move to raise funds for Guide Dogs Australia.
Ms Bridger-Darling and her border collie cross, Bracks, are taking up the challenge of walking for 30 minutes each day during August as part of the Guide Dogs Australia ‘Pawgust” fundraiser.
The fundraiser aims to encourage people to walk or run for at least 30 minutes every day in August, combining the promotion of healthy activity with supporting the training of canine companions for those who need them most.
Ms Bridger-Darling said she hopes to raise $500 to support the “vital work” of Guide Dogs Australia.
“Guide dogs are absolute live-savers, which are trained to do basically everything for those who need them,” she said.
“Guide dogs and assistance dogs literally save their owners lives every day."
“It costs a lot of money to train a guide dog, about $50,000 to get a pup up to standard."
“I’ve seen the impact service dogs can make on the lives of their owners and I wanted to support that.”
Ms Bridger-Darling said any support, great or small, was appreciated.
“A lot of people become blind during their life, which is a particular kind of tragedy,” she said.
“The impact having a guide dog in your life can be immense."
“You never know if it’s going to be you, and hopefully it’s not, but you never know when you or someone you love if going to have that need."
“I want to do what I can to support the people who do the hard work.”
This year 7361 participants have raised $449,176 in support of Guide Dogs Australia.
