In bloom: Cobden and District Orchid Club had a successful outing at the Warrnambool Orchid Show recently, as members prepare for their own show this weekend.

Cobden and District Orchid Club took home the Open Best Display at the show earlier this month.

Club president Denise Robertson congratulated all members for an acclaimed display.

“As we are only a small club, to win this prestigious award certainly was very special,” she said.

Cobden and District Orchid Club award winners were:

  • David Staggard — champion best specimen, plus two first placings and a second placing;

  • Merrilyn Buck — champion orchid other than a major prize winner, plus a first placing, three second placings and a third placing;

  • Rhonda Alexander — a second and third placing;

  • Don and Betty Stevenson — champion Australian native hybrid, reserve champion Dendrobium, in addition to four first placings, four second placings and three third placings; and

  • John and Cynthia Whitewood — two first placings, six second placings and three third placings.

“Our display had nearly 50 plants including Cymbidiums-Dendrobiums, and many others, where we received 35 placings,” Mrs Robertson said.

“It was a wonderful result.”

The Cobden Orchid Show is set to bring vibrancy and colour to the Cobden Civic Centre this weekend, on Saturday, October 19 from 9.30am through to 4pm and Sunday, October 20 from 10am, through to 3pm.

Entry is $5.

“Everyone who would like to attend is most welcome,” Mrs Robertson said.
