Parkrun turns five
RUNNERS and walkers of all ages and abilities came together to celebrate five years of parkrun at Timboon last Saturday.

RUNNERS and walkers of all ages and abilities came together to celebrate five years of parkrun at Timboon last Saturday.
The special milestone was enjoyed by a large group of participants, including Donna Ellis (the initial organiser and event director) as well as a handful of other participants from the very first Timboon parkrun.
Current event director Dean Whitehead said not even the early morning rain could dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of participants and volunteers.
“It was a great opportunity to share stories and memories of previous events,” Mr Whitehead said.
“Although we had early rain it cleared for a mainly fine run. It was fantastic to see the young and older members of our community participating in the same event.”
Mr Whitehead said a few new members of the local community were now regulars to parkrun.
“Many thanks to the volunteers we require each week to run the event,” Mr Whitehead said.
“You don’t need to run or walk to join parkrun there are plenty of volunteer roles that need to be filled each week.”
Timboon parkrun begins at 8pm sharp every Saturday, with event briefing from 7.45am at the Timboon playground.
