Performance decline
PERFORMANCE on the Warrnambool line dipped below V/Line’s monthly performance targets in June.
PERFORMANCE on the Warrnambool line dipped below V/Line’s monthly performance targets in June.
The Warrnambool line recorded 91 per cent for punctuality and 89.7 per cent for reliability in June.
The result equates to 12 late trains and 16 planned services, which were replaced by coaches for the month.
Coaches were planned to replace Warrnambool trains for part of the journey between June 20 and 29 while V/Line crews completed important planned maintenance and improvement works along
the line.
Works included important upgrades to a bridge at Winchelsea and the replacement of a culvert that allows water to pass under the rail line at Warncoort along with general infrastructure maintenance along the line.
A V/Line spokesperson said the works “were critical to enabling trains to run smoothly and reducing the risk of future disruptions caused by infrastructure faults”.
“We’re continuing to deliver safe and reliable services for passengers on the Warrnambool line,” the spokesperson said.
“We completed works to the Warrnambool line in June and we thank passengers for their patience while coaches replaced trains to allow this vital work to take place.”
Service delays were caused by a mix of unrelated train and infrastructure faults.
Coach replacements had to continue running on Thursday, July 30 to allow the works to be safely completed following delays caused by inclement weather.
This number accounted for half of the unplanned train cancellations for the month, with train faults and an emergency services request also causing trains to be unable to run through the month.
