Pies look to the future
AN opportunity to get some senior games into junior players will hold Camperdown in good stead for seasons to come.

AN opportunity to get some senior games into junior players will hold Camperdown in good stead for seasons to come.
Senior coach Neville Swayn is confident about the future of the Magpies, saying the playing group remains positive and upbeat despite a tough season on the scoreboard.
With just two wins after 11 rounds the Magpies currently sit ninth on the Hampden League ladder, above the winless Port Fairy.
The season started strong with a 24-point win over Terang Mortlake but it wasn’t until round five they tasted success again, with a 50-point win over Port Fairy.
The side has remained winless ever since.
“We try not to focus too much on the scoreboard and focus on what we’re doing right and where we can improve,” Swayn said.
“We always look at the positives and one of those is that this season has given us the chance to get some games into young players in positions they otherwise may not have played."
“Next year, when we’ve got 12 months of footy into them, I believe they’ll be long-term players and that’s a huge positive.”
Swayn said it was great to see team morale hadn’t dropped off during the season, with all players still keen and focused at training.
“We’re still getting great numbers at training every week and they all walk in keen and happy; there’s no negativity about.”
Looking at the remaining rounds, Swayn said his side would take each week as it comes and he remains confident of snatching a few more wins.
This week the Magpies will take on neighbours Cobden at the Cobden Recreation Reserve.
“We always have a good tussle with the Bombers and this weekend will be no different I’m sure,” Swayn said.
“History has shown that it doesn’t matter where we both are on the ladder, the game is always a close one. They got us by 26 points earlier in the year but if we can play our best footy there’s no reason why we can’t come home with a win.”
