Designs: A new look Cobden Technical School has moved a step closer with the release of designs for the 6.6 million project.

School principal Rohan Keert said the designs were the culmination of a series of meetings with the architects.

“These designs are the outcomes of the school’s needs and what the education department will allow,” he said.

“There’s been lots of consultation to get to this stage.

“We’re very excited.”

The two design images show the new entry to the school from the west, and the north external perspective which includes a new library, student amenities, wellbeing centre, staff work area and reception.

Mr Keert said as part of the major project, which received a $6.6 million commitment from the Labor Government at last year’s election, the former administration building, library, portables and the amenity block would be demolished.

He said the education department had labelled the buildings and spaces to be replaced of a “poor standard”.

“It will see the demolition of buildings that are no longer fit for purpose,” Mr Keert said.

“It’s (the build) not the whole school. A-wing will remain, and there will be some modifications.”

He said the school was looking forward to the next stage of the project.

“The design phase has been fully funded and we plan to have the detailed design ready for the construction work to begin in 2025 pending the 2024 budget announcement for construction,” Mr Keert said.

“All going well, we will have a new school ready for 2026.”

The upgrade will be the first major remodel in the school’s 50 plus year history.
