Plaque unveiled at Connection Rotunda

COBDEN and it’s many connections was front and centre last week at a special celebration.
More than 25 years ago the Cobden Rotary Club was involved with the Cobden Connection which saw the five Cobden’s of the world getting together on several occasions both in the northern and southern hemispheres.
“The five Cobden’s are in New Zealand, USA (two), Canada and of course our own here,” Cobden Rotary Club member Gary Kimber said.
“As part of the special international connection, Cobden Rotary and Cobden Quota Clubs combined to build a unique rotunda celebrating this getting together of Cobdenites from all over the world.”
The Rotunda was completed 25 years ago and Cobden Rotary members along with district residents helped mark the milestone with a Celebratory Session at the rotunda last Wednesday.
Mr Kimber said the Rotunda was opened on June 28, 1998 to celebrate the coming together of the five Cobden’s of the world.
“Last week’s celebrations saw over 50 people who either travelled to a Cobden, billeted a Cobdenite from afar or assisted in the Connection in some way,” he said.
“A plaque to the late Kevin Johnston who played a very big part in the Connection was unveiled and then the guests adjourned to the Golf Club for an afternoon tea and the sharing of a large array of souvenirs, memorabilia and clippings form the various Connection visits.”
Mr Kimber said a highlight was former Cobden Rotarian Alan Hart who told the group of the many highlights of the program.
“A wonderful fun afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by all,” he said.
