Pop-Up sessions prove popular

CORANGAMITE Shire mayor Kate Makin and chief executive officer (CEO) David Rae hit the road recently for informal listening posts around the Shire.

Ward councillors joined them at some of the half-hour pop-up sessions across 12 towns.

Cr Makin said residents told them it was good to see the CEO and mayor out and about.

“People told us they were loving the road sealing program instead of the dust suppressant program in problem areas,” she said.

“A lot of them were excited about getting glass recycling bins, which was great to hear.

“It was really gratifying to hear from people that council are great to get along with, easy to engage with and to get their questions answered.”

Mr Rae said council’s role was to provide services to the community so that two-way communication with our residents is vital.

“There were not large numbers but those who took the time to show up across the two days had positive feedback for council and concerns raised about roads—mostly state roads—general maintenance issues, the new electoral structure and roadside rubbish dumping,” she said.

“Information was also sought on council’s grant programs.

“It was a worthwhile exercise and something that could be repeated in the future.”
