STUDENTS at Derrinallum P-12 College got a visit from the Smile Squad recently.
The Smile Squad is a school-based initiative of the Victorian Government to ensure all government school students can receive dental care.
The program is delivered through dental vans which visit school sites and is delivered in the area by Barwon Health Dental Services.
Oral health therapist Natalie Dewing said the Geelong-based service visits Derrinallum, Noorat, Cobden, Terang and Mortlake schools during the term.
“We’ve been doing it for over five years,” she said.
“We do check-ups, cleanings, fillings, x-rays and stainless-steel crowns.
“We try to focus on preventative care to prevent them going into the dental clinics for more invasive treatments.
“We try to get them confident coming in to see us. They love it, and we give them stickers.”
