Power crushes Dennington

The Power announced themselves to the competition with a stunning 35.27 (237) to 2.2 (14) victory against Dennington last Saturday.
It was a dominant performance, one that even surprised coach Ben Walsh, who admitted he entered the contest not knowing what to expect from their opposition.
“Probably the most pleasing thing was our willingness and ability to keep playing the game out and not taking our foot of the pedal,” he said.
“We sort of put the scoreboard aside when we had it under control, so I was pleased with the boys’ ability to play out the game in the right manner.”
After a reasonably close opening, the Power broke the game open in the last 15 minutes of the first term, banging on six goals to establish a 32 point lead.
It was a margin they would not have to worry about from that point, as they slammed home goal after goal after goal in the second quarter to push their advantage to 92 points at the main break.
The floodgates opened further in the second half, with the Power kicking 21 goals to one to put the icing on what was a dominant performance.
Walsh was pleased with how the game progressed for his side, adding his midfield was the catalyst for their victory.
“Probably the first 10 to 15 minutes it was still only one goal each and it was a bit scrappy and everyone was chasing the footy which you can expect a bit,” he said.
“But then we really got on top in the middle of the ground, our two ruckman Brodie Edge and Brad Lucas won the ball cleanly to Scott Judd, Brad Johnson, Harry O’Sullivan and Luke McConnell who put it into dangerous spots.”
Luke McConnell was a clear best on ground for Kolora Noorat, kicking a bagful of goals as he ran riot both through the midfield and up forward.
A number of others also performed strongly, with Walsh commending them for their efforts.
“Luke McConnell, he kicked 10 and was terrific,” Walsh said.
“Brad Johnson and Brodie Edge returning to the club were great.
“And Harry O’Sullivan was another, in his first senior game for the club, was excellent in the midfield and up forward and Scott Judd was great as well.
“It was pretty even (across the board) but they were our standouts.”
The Power are now set to host Panmure in their second match and Walsh is certainly expecting a competitive hit-out against a side he expects will rise up the ladder this year.
“I think they’ll be one of the big improvers and last year even though they didn’t get too many wins they were really competitive I thought when we played them,” he said.
“I’m expecting them to win plenty of games and they have a number of really good players.
“We’re going to have to be ready to go but we’re looking forward to it.”
