Power netballers record second win

The Power returned to the winners’ list for the first time since round two courtesy of a 54-42 triumph over the Bombers.
Power coach Kym Goonan said the playing group was both relieved and happy to notch up win number two after a tough run of matches.
“We sort of didn’t go into the game expecting to win it but we knew we were a good chance,” she said.
“We had to work hard for it, it wasn’t easy by any means because East has really improved, but I really loved how the girls went about it.
“We were really pleased to get a win on the board and we’re really happy with the result.”
Goonan went further to say the win was a big reward for effort, knowing all too well her side had been able to put together solid patches of netball despite failing to achieve its desired results.
“As I said previously, we have a new team so we’ve had to focus on small things each week,” she said.
“It’s good to see all the hard work is starting to pay off and getting a win gives us a lot of confidence.”
The match was played mostly on the Power’s terms, with Kolora Noorat opening up a break on the Bombers heading into the first change.
They then extended their lead throughout the second and third quarters before East Warrnambool mounted a challenge in the last term.
But Goonan was pleased her side was able to steady and respond to the Bombers surge, effectively regaining control as they scored a 12 goal win.
“They (East) definitely put up a good contest,” she said.
“Speaking to their club people after the game I commended them for that and I really think and hope they can be competitive because you don’t like to see other clubs struggle.
“It’s good to see that if they aren’t winning games, they want to be competitive, and I certainly think they are on the right track.”
Kolora Noorat’s victory certainly gives them confidence ahead of its clash with Allansford this week, with the Cats currently sitting four points adrift of the Power.
While Goonan said the win last week was definitely a step in the right direction, she was expecting the Cats to present a tough challenge.
She is confident her side can produce another strong four quarter performance and is hopeful they can add another victory before they face return matches against the competition’s top sides.
“It’d be great to string a few wins on the board before we hit that tough patch of hard games again,” she said.
In the day’s other matches, the Power won the A reserve, 17 and under, 15 and under and 13 and under contests, but was defeated in the B grade game.
