Power wins big over Demons
THE Power solidified its hold on fifth spot with a convincing victory away over struggling Timboon on the weekend.

THE Power solidified its hold on fifth spot with a convincing victory away over struggling Timboon on the weekend.
In a ruthless display, Kolora-Noorat piled on the goals to defeat the home side 22.19 (151) to 5.5 (35).
The Power got away from the Demons early on, leading at quarter time by four goals to one and stretching the deficit to 33 points at the mid-way point.
The visitors restricted the Demons to a single goal in the second half while kicking 13 of their own to claim a 116-point win.
Sam Boyd was the Power’s best player, kicking 12 goals in his third game to cement his place in the club, while Ben Reid returned from injury to provide huge defensive pressure for his side.
Kolora Noorat are now level on points with fourth side Merrivale, who lost to Russells Creek, while South Rovers trail Kolora-Noorat by four points in sixth place.
Power coach Nick Bourke said his side was very happy to come away with the win despite Timboon’s poor record through the year.
“Timboon at Timboon’s never easy, so we were definitely happy to get away with the four points,” he said.
“The way we started the year, any win’s important going forward.
“We’re trying to bank as many points as we can, that’s the aim, and trying to play a good brand of footy while we do that.”
Bourke said the fact that his team had increased its rate of scoring in each quarter was a positive sign, but accuracy in front of goal had been an issue.
“We probably weren’t playing how we wanted to in the first half, we had control of the game but we just weren’t getting the scores on the board that we probably deserved,” he said.
“I felt like in the second half we really kept the foot down, and that was really pleasing.
“Accuracy was a problem at times, it was getting a bit frustrating.
“It’s something we need to work on, because when we play the teams that are above us we can’t allow them back in the game by missing goals we should be kicking. So that’s definitely a focus for us.”
In the last game of the first round of matchups Kolora-Noorat face Old Collegians at home this week, and Bourke is keen to put another four points on the board before facing Panmure and Nirranda again in rounds 10 and 11.
“There’s certainly no such thing as an easy game across the league now, so we’re just trying to put four quarters together,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get a bit of consistent footy as a playing group, bank the four points, and then look on to a couple of tougher games in the following weeks.”
The Kolora-Noorat A grade netball side remained winless after going down 27-53 against their Timboon counterparts on the weekend.
The Power will hope to have a good showing against fellow strugglers Old Collegians at home this week.
