Prelim awaits Demons
LISMORE Derrinallum’s senior football, reserve football and 18 and under netball sides will all contest Mininera League preliminary finals this weekend.
The preliminary final round will be held at Dunkeld tomorrow (Saturday).
The Demons’ seniors will need to overcome ladder leaders Wickliffe Lake Bolac to earn a spot on grand final day.
While the Magpies will be coming off an agonising one-point loss to Penshurst last weekend, the Demons will be riding high after defeating Hawkesdale Macarthur by 12 points last Sunday, 11.9.75 to 9.9.63.
The game kept spectators on their toes, with just a point separating the two clubs after the opening term.
The Demons held on to a slim two-point lead going into the main break before breaking away to 15 point lead by three-quarter time.
The Eagles fought back in the final term but it wasn’t enough, with the Demons holding on for the win.
Lachie Constable kicked four for the Demons while Blake Scott added three and Liam Rigby two.
Other goal kickers were Jack Atkins and Jack McCallum.
Best for the Demons were Bailey Austin, Liam Rigby, Henry Walsh, Harry Bufton, Will Langley and Bradley Ward.
The Demons’ reserves also hung on for victory last Sunday, ending Ararat’s finals campaign, 6.7.43 to 5.9.39.
Ryan Marquand kicked two goals while James Boag, Riley Browne, Paul Hodder and Ryan Jeffrey added one each to the scoreboard.
Best for the side were Paul Hodder, Beau Ketchen, Todd Lamont, Jason Germon, Fraser Toohey and Riley Browne.
The club’s 18 and under netballers put in a consistent effort across the court last Sunday to defeat Caramut 29-22 in the semi-final.
They will now face Penshurst tomorrow for the opportunity to play in next week’s grand final against Woorndoo Mortlake.
Best for the team last weekend were Stella Horspole and Jessica Miller.
Having finished on top of the ladder after the home and away season, and defeating Ararat 28-22 in the semi-final, the Demons’ C grade netballers have earnt their spot in the grand final.
