The Bombers will contest the must-win game this weekend following an eight-goal loss to South Warrnambool last Saturday, 43-51.

Senior coach Sophie Hinkley said while the team didn’t get the win, she was extremely happy with how her side played.

“It (the game) really showed our self-belief; the day really did have some ebbs and flows and we were probably pretty lucky they scored an extra few goals in the last few minutes,” Hinkley said.

“All the girls really put in 110 per cent and contributed right across the court; I think Nadine (McNamara) and Emily (Finch) were super solid at each end of the court but all 10 players gave their all the entire game.”

This weekend’s preliminary final against the Saints will be another good match-up according to Hinkley.

“Koroit is always a strong opponent. We beat them by four goals in the qualifier and it was the first time this season that we’d both had our full squads so we’re expecting another close one this weekend.

“It will be another close grind but hopefully we can come home with the win and get another chance at South (Warrnambool) in next week’s grand final.”

In the 17 and unders, Cobden was defeated by South Warrnambool 28-31 in Sunday’s semi-final, ending their finals campaign.

Best for the Bombers were Matilda Darcy, Nikki Clover and Claire Blain.

Cobden’s 13 and unders were defeated by Koroit, 16-43 in the semi-final, bringing their season to an end.

Best for the Bombers were Zaya Howard, Courtney Blain and Daisy Bennett.

Cobden’s reserve footballers remain in premiership contention after defeating Terang Mortlake in last weekend’s semi-final, 14.9.93 to 7.5.47.

The Bombers got off to a relatively slow start, kicking just two points for the opening quarter while the Bloods put three majors on the board.

A four goal second term, while holding the Bloods scoreless, saw the Bombers go into the main break with a handy six-point lead.

The Bloods fought back in the third, kicking four goals to one and went into the last term with an 11-point lead.

But the Bombers stepped it up a notch and ran home 46-point victors.

Best for the side were Matt Clarke, Lachie Davis, Sam Darcy, Louis Robertson and Ashley Rosolin.

Oliver Darcy and Michael Koroneos kicked three goals each for the Bombers, while Lachie Davis and Jack Hutt kicked two each.

Other goals went to Tarj Anderson, Brady Green, Harrison Herschell and Ashley Rosolin.

They will now face South Warrnambool in this Saturday’s preliminary final.
