Pomborneit Gold took out a grand final win last weekend, while the club’s under 17 girls also celebrated victory in their final.

After the heartbreak of three consecutive grand final losses, the Pomborneit Gold women have finally tasted the ultimate success with a 34-run win over Bookaar in Sunday’s Colac District women’s grand final at CMTP Oval, Colac.

Sent in to bat, Gold got off to a quick start with opener Ella Sadler striking the ball well to make 19 from 14 balls.

But it was a 40-run partnership for the third wicket between the team’s leaders, Samantha Coxon and Jessica Moulden, that set up the innings.

Skipper Coxon played fluently, especially through the off-side, for 28 from 24 balls, while Moulden made it to the 30-retired mark from 34 balls.

Rachel Dendle hit the ball hard in a quick-fire 14 from 13 balls, while Nellie Sadler played a huge role in finishing off the innings strongly, with 27 from 21 balls.

Gold finished the innings on 7/145 from its 20 overs.

Bookaar batted well to start their innings and while Gold couldn’t get an early wicket, they managed to keep the run-rate down and build pressure.

Once both Bookaar openers retired the wickets started to fall, with both Coxon and Sadler striking multiple times and drying up the runs.

Pomborneit Gold restricted Bookaar to 6/111 from their 20 overs to record Pomborneit’s first premiership in the open women’s competition – and the club’s second senior women’s premiership after its division two title in the 2021/22 season.

Nellie Sadler was awarded MVP for her double of 27 runs and 3/13 from four overs.

In the under 17 grandfinal, Pomborneit made it back-to-back premierships with a commanding display in Sunday morning’s decider at CMTP Oval.

Batting first, openers Nellie Sadler and Neave Thompson got the team off to an explosive start, with 37 runs coming off the first three overs before Thompson was the first dismissed for 16 from 11 balls.

Sadler went on to make 30 retired from 22 balls as Pomborneit continued to tick the score over.

Jada Mahony made her fifth score of 30 retired for the season and Isla Nolan continued her strong form in the back half of the season with 19 runs.

Lucia Clarke finished the innings off well, making 26, as Pomborneit finished on 4/141 from its 20 overs.

A direct hit run-out from Mahony on the fourth ball of the innings put Colac on the back foot early.

A great team effort with both bowling and fielding saw constant wickets fall.

Colac was all out for 89 in the 19th over to give Pomborneit a 52-run win.

Lily Van Es, Mahony and Neave Thompson took two wickets each, with a single wicket to Lucia Clarke.

Mahony was awarded the MVP medal for a brilliant all-round game.
