Road upgrades under way: More than $2 million in works have begun on the Princes Highway with the works expected to be completed by April.

The Department of Transport and Planning has begun works on a total of 1.9-kilometres of road on the Princes Highway between Terang and Camperdown.

The upgrades are expected to be finished by the end of April, weather permitting.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Planning said the stretch was identified for works, in line with responsibilities under the Road Management Act (2004), during weekly inspections of the Princes Highway in which patching works are identified.

“We’ve delivering major maintenance patching works along the Princes Highway between Terang and Boorcan to create a smoother, more reliable surface for drivers,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re prioritising roads heavily impacted by flood events of recent years, particularly on critical freight and travel routes like the Princes Highway.

“These works are part of our $770 million road maintenance blitz, which is delivering large-scale, long-term repairs to roads right across the state.”

The Department of Planning and Transport manages more than 22,000 kilometres of road network, which the spokesperson said is “inspected regularly to ensure compliance with the Road Management Act (2004) and the roads are maintained in accordance with the DTP Road Management Plan”.

The works neighbour further major patching works on MacKinnons Bridge Road, between Princes Highway and Pontings Rd in Noorat East, which were finished last month.

Additional asphalting works are scheduled to take place on MacKinnons Bridge Road in Noorat East, from Terang-Mortlake Road to Glenormiston Road.

The spokesperson said “a significant amount of work is being undertaken across the Barwon South West region’s road network” throughout 2024 in a bid to keep drivers and goods moving.
