At last week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, shire manager assets planning John Kelly said works were completed on the extension of the existing concrete footpath on the northern side of Parrot Street east of Victoria Street to Walker Street in Cobden.

“The footpath constructed in this section of Parrott Street has provided a high community benefit with improved access to the Cobden CBD to the north and Cobdenhealth to the south,” he said in his report to council.

Mr Kelly said the actual cost of construction of the footpath on completion was less than the cost of construction estimated at the time of the declaration.

“The installation of the footpath in Parrott Street, Cobden has provided connections with the existing footpaths adjoining this street,” he said.

“The new footpath has improved the amenity and access in the town and is considered to benefit the property owners and the community in general.

“The project has been managed efficiently to ensure that residents making contributions are not financially disadvantaged.”

The estimated cost to property owners was $6915 and came in marginally under budget at $6826.

The estimated cost to council was $27,660 and the final cost was $27,303.
