AFTER a 64-goal loss to league powerhouse Tatyoon in round 9, the Demons’ A grade netballers were seeking a confidence boosting win last weekend.

Playing at Lismore against SMW Rovers, the Demons found themselves just three goals up at the main break.

“We went into the game a bit down on self-confidence and self-belief after the previous week’s shake-up from Taty,” senior coach Amy Lodge said.

“We really did struggle to find our feet at first and Rovers were playing well."

“But we re-grouped at the main break and our spirits lifted. It certainly wasn’t our best game to date, but it was a win and an important one.”

The Demons currently sit fifth on the ladder, two games clear of sixth-placed Woorndoo Mortlake and a game away from Hawkesdale Macarthur in fourth and Penshurst in third.

“We travel to Penshurst tomorrow for what will be another tough game,” Lodge said.

“It’ll be a great match up and I’m really looking forward to seeing how we go and exactly where we sit."

“We need these big games in the lead-up to finals.”

Final scores last weekend in A grade were Lismore Derrinallum 45 to SMW Rovers 38.

Best for the Demons: Amy Lodge and Steff Cox.

In B grade the Demons fought hard but lost 22-27. Best on court: Michaela Alexander.

C grade also saw victory to the Demons, 21-12, with Lisa Heuer and Rebbekah Neale named best.

In the 13 and under match, the Demons enjoyed a huge win, 52-3, in what was a great team effort.

“Last Saturday was an extra special one for both clubs,” Hodge said.

“We hosted a 4EK purple day to raise much needed funds and awareness into meningococcal disease."

“Thanks to everyone who purchased and wore purple socks and ribbons, or donated at the gate, we raised about $1500 which was amazing.”

A commemorative purple medallion was awarded to the player of the day in both netball and football.

These were won by Rovers players Deb Bourke and Brad Scott.

Senior footballers from both clubs don purple socks for a great cause.
