RORY Pickles has taken line honours in the 2023 Saul Pasque Memorial road race for senior cyclists.

The event saw 25 starters in the seniors’ handicap race split among five bunches, with a fast tail wind out and a tough ride back into town.

With about six kilometres left to race, the four Limit bunch riders were caught by the second bunch which consisted of six local riders who all continued to work well together.

At the final turn the 10 from the two front bunches were still together and getting optimistic for the final sprint, with the fast-finishing scratch riders breathing down their necks.

The final sprint saw two of the Limit riders, brothers Rory and Tom Pickles (with a life-long connection to the Pasque family) able to get over the line just ahead of scratch rider and previous winner of the race, Bailey McDonald who completed in a time of 21 minutes 16 seconds.

The top five finished as follows:

1st Rory Pickles 27 min 46 sec, 2nd Tom Pickles, 3rd (and fastest time) Bailey McDonald, 4th Tynan Shannon and 5th Garry Doyle.

The Camperdown Cycling Club congratulates and thanks all competitors along with the Pasque family, SES Camperdown, sponsors, handicappers, starters, timekeepers and all other helpers involved before, during and after the races.
