The Terang Harness Racing Club hosted a Family Race Day on Wednesday, October 2 for a seven-race line-up which boasted a range of family fun including pony trots, Australian Olympic bronze medallist Penny Smith as guest speaker, on-course catering and a range of activities for the kids.

Terang Harness Racing Club president Chris O’Connor said he was pleased with how the day unfolded.

“It’s been really good,” he said.

“The kids have been out enjoying the sun, which is great - it’s what we aim to do.

“It’s nice to see the track getting some use - the day meetings are turning out to be quite a hit, particularly with families.”

The day saw locals take full advantage of a free event while also drawing families to the track from as far as Geelong and Warrnambool.

“It’s a really good quality facility, which helps a lot in drawing people to the races, in addition to high-quality racing,” Mr O’Connor said.

“It’s great to see the races attracting people from outside of the area.”

Mr O’Connor said Terang Harness Racing Club had an exciting calendar of events upcoming as racing action heats up in the warmer months.

“It’s free to get into the races now – I’m not sure that’s something everyone knows, but in time I think it’ll get even better,” he said.

“Especially on days with lovely weather, and come summer we’ll have four night meetings.

“It should be a great mix.”
