SPRINTCARS are set to return to Simpson next Tuesday night.

It has been a busy off-season at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway, with a major upgrade to the safety fence and, like many venues, a battle with wet weather.

Close to 30, 410 cub inch-powered cars will compete for line honours in the fifth round of the Victorian Sprintcars Racing Association series, proudly supported by South West Conveyancing.

The venue is excited to also welcome back the Formula 500s and junior Formula 500s, with in excess of 55 seniors and 20 juniors entered.

Last year’s winner of this meeting, and 2018 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic winner Corey McCullagh of Warrnambool looks likely to challenge for victory and is looking forward to grabbing his first win of the new season.

“I’m pretty excited to get back to race at Simpson,” McCullagh said.

“The Simpson club does a great job with the track, it’s a real two lanes to pass on which is good for us guys as far as tyre wear is concerned, and good for fans.”

Also pressing McCullagh for a win will be Laang’s Ashley Cook who has already grabbed a series round win at Wangaratta earlier this month.

Multiple SRA champions Brett Milburn and Matthew Reed are entered, along with Terry Rankin and Will Carroll, while Tasmanians Tate Frost and Dion Appleby will make the trek across Bass Strait.

The opening round of the Preston Rowe Patterson Speedweek for Formula 500s has attracted drivers and their teams from all over Australia in what is the biggest list in this class this season.

The battle for the win in round one of the Gibbtrans Junior Speedweek Series also boasts a record list of teams already nominated, set to showcase the future stars of speedway racing.

Gates open at 4pm next Tuesday, with racing from 5.30pm.

Admission is $30 adults, $26 concession, $10 child 12-16, with children under 11 free.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online at www.simpsonspeedway.com.au
