Rainfall remains low through March
THE dry start to the year continued throughout March, with only fleeting rain recorded across Terang and Mortlake.
Throughout the month Terang experienced 7.4mm of rainfall, falling short of the long-term average of 47.8mm.
The highest daily rainfall recorded during the month fell on March 20, with 6mm hitting the ground.
The result was even further below the average than the result recorded in March 2023, when 29mm of rain fell during the month.
The figure brings the rainfall tally for 2024 through the first three months of the year to 85.4mm in Terang, well below the long-term average of 124.7mm over the same period.
Meanwhile in Mortlake, just 3.6mm of rainfall was recorded during March, with a highest daily rainfall of 1.6mm recorded on March 20.
The figure fell well below the long-term monthly average of 31.5mm.
The result stands in contrast to the result recorded in March 2023 when an above-average 40.6mm of rain hit the ground.
The result brings the total rainfall tally in 2024 through March to 62.4mm for Mortlake, below the long-term average of 99.3mm over the same period.
