Read, Grow Inspire
DINOSAURS, witches and all sorts of book characters filled the halls of Camperdown College’s junior campus as students celebrated Book Week with a costume parade.

DINOSAURS, witches and all sorts of book characters filled the halls of Camperdown College’s junior campus as students celebrated Book Week with a costume parade.
While usually held at the Clocktower in Manifold Street, the weather saw students showing friends and family their costumes on campus.
The 2023 Book Week theme, ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’, was prominent as a special session of buddy reading was held during the parade.
Corangamite Shire Council mayor Ruth Gstrein shared a book with the students, appropriately sport-themed to reflect the country’s recent following of the Matildas in soccer.
Noorat author Tania Moloney read her recent book, ‘Nature Ninja Saves the Natural World’, and answered questions from the students about how the book came together.
Junior Campus librarian Lauren Murphy said Camperdown College has been holding the parade for a few years to celebrate and promote literacy and the love of reading.
“Last year we were at the base of the clocktower, which was out intended spot for today, but because of the weather, we had to come into the main building and do it inside,” she said.
“I think the day was still running well, and the kids are all enjoying themselves.
“I think they’re all really enjoying it; they love to dress up, they love to put themselves out there and putting their best foot forward.
“It shows they love reading, and they love their books, and are really enjoying the day.”
Ms Murphy said she found a Facebook post from the Warrnambool Library with Ms Moloney promoting her new book.
“I emailed Tanya and she was nice enough to come to our school and promote her new book and to also promote the love of reading for kids,” she said.
“It’s always nice to have local authors coming in and inspiring our kids.”
