HEYTESBURY Rebels are hoping to make it two from two in this Saturday’s round of semi-final matches.
The club’s division one and division two sides have both finished on top of their respective South West Cricket ladders, earning their spots in the first round of finals.
Division one coach Simon Harkness said the club was thrilled to be in the finals race in the top two divisions.
“The club is certainly up and about at the business end of the season,” he said.
“We’re thrilled to have finished on top in divisions one and two and will be working hard to try and bring home both flags.”
Last weekend’s division one game saw the Rebels suffer a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Pomborneit – 160 to 6/162.
Harkness led from the front with a knock of 53 and was well supported by team-mates Tom Hunt with 23 and Travis Brown who added 17.
Bayley Thompson was the best of the Rebels’ bowlers, finishing the day with figures of 4/27 from 10 overs.
“We were simply beaten by a better side on the day and that’s cricket,” Harkness said.
“I’m not too stressed about it (the loss); it’s probably a timely one for us and highlighted what we need to work on in the lead-up to the start of finals this weekend.
“We didn’t accelerate with the bat and made a few mistakes in the field but it’s all manageable. We’re now looking ahead and that’s this weekend’s semi-final against Cobden.”
Heytesbury’s division two side enjoyed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Princetown last weekend.
Finishing with 2/123 the Rebels contained Princetown to 122.
Sam Hickey enjoyed an unbeaten knock of 59 while Marcus Hickey was 37 not out.
Best of the bowlers for the Rebels were Zac Lenehan 4/26 off eight, Scott Thompson 3/24 off eight and Michael Vogels 2/24 off 5.5.
Division two will take on Boorcan in this weekend’s semi-final at Timboon Recreation Reserve.
Division one will play at Camperdown’s Lakes Recreation Reserve.
