A special day: Camperdown Country Fire Authority (CFA)’s Bernie Sinnott has recently returned from a ceremony at Government House in Melbourne with a medal in tow.

Mr Sinnott OAM was recognised with the medal as part of the King’s Birthday Honours List back in June, with the investiture held at Government House in Melbourne earlier this month.

The investiture was held on Thursday, September 5, with a total crowd of close to 500 people.

Mr Sinnott OAM said the day was formal but was enjoyable.

“There was about 103 people who received awards, ranging from Australian medals to Order of Australia medals, to bravery medals, to police medals and fire brigade medals,” he said.

“It was very prompt and formal.

“They do it over two days – they did it in alphabetical order.”

Mr Sinnott OAM said he was humbled to receive the award, as well as being able to share the moment he received his medal from Governor of Victoria Margaret Gardner AC with his family.

“It was very exciting, and I’m very honoured to receive the medal,” he said.

“My wife and one of my sons were there, so that was good.

“I was very honoured to share it with my family because they helped me a lot during the time I did all my service for the community.”

The medal is personalised to him, including his full name and a number engraved on the back of the medal to honour Mr Sinnott OAM’s work within the community.
