REIGNING premiers Koroit proved too strong for Camperdown on their home ground last weekend.
The Saints were taken by surprise when the visitors came out firing on Saturday and headed into the second term with a narrow three-point lead.
However, the home side was quick to bounce back, adding two goals nine to the board while containing the Magpies to just one behind.
A half-time lead of 17 points was extended to 53 by three-quarter time thanks to a dominating third term which saw the Magpies scoreless for the quarter.
Despite a five-goal final quarter, the Magpies fell 42 points short of victory, 7.7.49 to 11.25.91.
Riley Arnold, Archie McBean, Cameron Spence, Zach Sinnott and Hamish Sinnott were among the best for the Magpies while Arnold and Spence both kicked two for the game and Eddie Lucas, Will Rowbottom and Myles Sinnott each contributed a goal.
With just three home and away rounds remaining the Magpies sit seventh on the Hampden League ladder, a game and a half out of the top five.
They will host bottom-side Portland next week (August 12) before taking on Hamilton and rounding out the season against sixth-placed Port Fairy on August 26.
Camperdown’s reserves had a tough day out last Saturday, going down to Koroit by 107 points, 2.3.15 to 18.14.122.
Wilba Cheeseman and Nelson Loader were the Magpies only goal scorers and were both named in the best along with Darren Cheeseman, Eddie Baker and Xavier O’Connor.
The under 18.5s remain winless after going down to Koroit by 83 points, 1.2.8 to 13.13.91.
Ethan Wyss was the only goal scorer for the day and was named in the best along with team-mates Brock Stephens, Wilba Cheeseman, Scott Londregan, Isaac Winsall and Tarkyn Love.
It was a mixed bag of results on the netball courts for Camperdown, winning two of the seven games played.
