Annual tradition: Cobden Primary School students marked Remembrance Day with a community service on Friday.

RESIDENTS across the region paused for a moment at services across the district to pay their respects to the servicemen and women who served in war.

In Cobden, community members joined with Cobden Primary School staff and students on Monday to mark the passing of the armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the11th month.

The school has been holding the service for more than 10 years which continued to be well supported by community members.

School grade 3-6 department co-ordinator Nathan Murphy led the service with the assistance of school captains.

Mr Murphy said it was also a good opportunity for student leaders to speak in front of an audience.

Remembrance Day services continues the tradition of pausing at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate our fallen.

Since 1914, more than 102,000 Australian service personnel have lost their lives in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations, making the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

On Remembrance Day it is a tradition to honour the fallen by wearing a red poppy, the flower that grew in the battlefields of France and Belgium during the First World War.
