Rev your engines to raise funds
MOTORING enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice when the Guzzlers Car Club revs up its seventh annual 'Prison Break' event this weekend.
The annual event this Saturday will see Camp Cooriemungle filled with just about anything a motor can be attached to as the Guzzlers Car Club continues to lean into the creative concept of ‘Show us ya toys’.
“The concept of ‘Show us ya toys’ is that if it’s got a motor in it, we want to see it,” Guzzlers Car Club president Claude Love said.
“This will be our seventh annual event after starting off as just a car show.
“We had a few guys over the years ask if they could bring motorbikes along, which expanded to other interests, so we felt encouraging everyone to show us their toys would help cater to everyone.
“Years ago, a show in Hamilton had some blokes with old patrol boat engines mounted to trailers, and we wanted to grow the event along those lines so people could bring anything they would like.”
The expanded offering has seen an increase in motorbikes, cars, boats, pick-ups and utes, hot-rods, high-powered mowers, and more.
While the excitement of showing off toys creates the fun and spectacle, the occasion will also be used to help raise vital funds for local not-for-profit Western District Food Share.
“We’ll be hosting a large auction thanks to our sponsors and other businesses, with all proceeds from the auction going to Western District Food Share,” Mr Love said.
“Every year we try to raise around $2000, and if we don’t reach that mark we will typically try and raise the tally ourselves to meet it.”
The event will feature live entertainment from bands ‘Run Bella Run’ and ‘Buzzard Breath’, with plenty of entertainment for the kids, trophies and prizes, and plenty of food vendors to keep all appetites satisfied.
“It’s about having fun, a whole family inclusive day with likeminded people,” Mr Love said.
On site camping, caravan sites and accommodation will be available through Camp Cooriemungle.
Gates open at midday on Saturday, January 20, with admission $5 per person or $15 per family.
