FIFTEEN year-old division one debutante Gavin Reynolds played a pivot role in the Bulls’ four-wicket victory over top side Heytesbury Rebels last weekend.

Pomborneit’s division one team finished the home and away season with a solid victory over the Rebels on Saturday.

Winning the toss and sending the Rebels in, the visitors worked hard for an opening partnership of 78 despite some tight Bulls bowling.

As he has done all season, Tom Darcy proved the partnership breaker before Tharaka Sendanayake removed Heytesbury captain Simon Harkness for a well-made 53.

This was followed by two quick wickets to Jack Darcy to see the contest on an even keel at 4/107.

Playing his first division one game, 15 year-old Gavin Reynolds bowled an excellent early spell to Heytesbury's openers, conceding 13 runs from six overs, before coming back to claim three wickets in his second spell, finishing with 3/23 from 10 overs.

Skipper Grant Place praised Reynolds for his on-field efforts.

“Gav (Reynolds) bowled full like we asked him to,” Place said.

“He bowls with decent pace and has earnt his chance with his form in under 16 cricket and in division two. It was pleasing to see him come in and perform like that.”

Heytesbury was bowled out in the 50th over for 160.

Dave Murphy got the Bulls off to a strong start with a run a ball 44 in an opening partnership of 57 with his brother Steve.

The team then got tied down and lost wickets at regular intervals to be 4/92 before a 58-run partnership between Tharaka Sendanayake and Sam Darcy for the fifth wicket saw the Bulls all but home, both dismissed before the team eventually passed the score in the 45th over to record a four wicket win.

Pomborneit finish the season in second place on the ladder, with a semi-final against Bookaar at Terang tomorrow.

Pomborneit's Division two team finished its home and away season with a 25 run loss at Cobden.

The home team batted first, making 8/157 from its 40 overs.

Simon Tolland, Charlier Voutier and Tim Whitehead took two wickets each, while Stephen Walters was his typical miserly self, taking 1/18 in eight straight overs with the new ball.

In reply the division two Bulls never got going with their batting; Simon Tolland with 22 from 23 balls, and Stephen Walters with 25 off 52 balls offering the most resistance - the team all out for 132.

Pomborneit finish the regular season in third place on the division two ladder, with a semi-final against Simpson at Simpson tomorrow.

Pomborneit Gold has made it through to the CDCA women's grand final after an 87-run win over Carlisle River at Pomborneit on Sunday.

Opener Ella Sadler got the team off to a great start with 30 retired off 43 balls, her second 30 retired for the day after making the same score in the under 17 semi-final that morning.

Jess Moulden with 18 from 20 balls and Sam Coxon, with 19 from 20 balls, batted well through the middle order, while Tayla Reynolds finished the innings off well with an unbeaten 18 from 21 balls to see the team post 4/117 from its 20 overs.

Early wickets to Coxon, Moulden and Nellie Sadler saw Gold right on top before Tayla Reynolds ripped through the Carlisle River batting line-up to take 4/4 from four overs, three of her wickets being bowled, as the visitors were dismissed for 30 in the 13th over.

In the under 17 girls semi-final, also at Pomborneit on Sunday, Pomborneit progressed through to the grand final with a 59-run win over Birregurra.

Skipper Ella Sadler's 30 retired came from 33 balls, with the other main contribution coming from Emily Norman who made 23 from 38 balls.

A strong bowling and fielding effort from the Pomborneit under 17s saw Birregurra all out for 41 in the 16th over.

Lily Van Es led the way with 3/12 from her four overs, Ella Sadler bowled well to claim 2/9 from four overs with a wicket each to Nellie Sadler and Emily Norman.

This Sunday sees Pomborneit teams feature in all three female grand finals to be held at Colac's CMTP Oval, with the Pomborneit Gold under 13 girls starting the day against Colac, the under 17 girls also playing Colac in their decider, before the senior women's grand final between Pomborneit Gold and Bookaar.

Pomborneit's under 14 boys’ team has made it through to a grand final appearance in its first ever season in the Colac District Cricket Association junior competition after a 61 run semi-final win over Irrewarra Red at Colac's CSC Oval.

Batting first, Pomborneit was all out for 101.

Captain Fletcher Tolland batted well at the top of the order to make 20 retired from his 24 balls, with other main contributors being Levi Coote with 17, Ollie West with 15 from 17 balls, Finn Huggins 13 not out and Patrick Spokes with 12.

The junior Bulls needed to bowl well to defend their second lowest score of the season, and started well with a sharp slips catch by Josh Reynolds from the bowling of Levi Coote to dismiss Irrewarra captain Xavier Cooknell on the first ball of the innings.

The new ball pairing of Coote, who took 3/11 from four overs, and Max Rees, who took 2/8 from three overs including an excellent caught and bowled from a well hit ball, reduced Irrewarra Red to 5/16.

Pomborneit continued to bowl well and take regular wickets, with Finn Huggins taking 2/6 and a wicket each to Josh Reynolds, Sam Fryers and Jonty Raven, but the highlight was undoubtedly the superb catching, with George Sadler a livewire in the field taking three excellent catches and Ollie West a wonderful catch running back against the flight of a skied ball which saw Irrewarra all out for 40.

The under 14 Bulls play Irrewarra Black in tonight's grand final at the CSC Oval.

Ella Sadler’s performance with the bat resulted in 30 retired in both the under 17 and senior women’s semi finals.
