POMBORNEIT Cricket Club has reappointed Matthew Richardson as the club’s division two men’s captain for the 2023/24 season.

The upcoming season will be Matthew’s third in the role.

Under his leadership, the 2022/23 campaign saw Pomborneit make the finals for the first time at division two level since the South West CA began in 1996/97.

Pomborneit president Dave Murphy praised Richardson’s efforts over the past two seasons.

“The division two competition has always been a tough challenge for our second 11, often coming up against strong first 11s in that grade, so for Richo to finally lead us to a semi-final appearance last year was pleasing and hopefully the start of regular finals appearances in division two,” Murphy said.

“The improvement in that team has been fantastic over the past two seasons under Richo’s leadership, and we look forward to further development and consistency in that grade”.

A product of the Pomborneit juniors in the 1990s, Richardson has played 222 senior games for the club since his debut in the 1995/96 season.

He was a member of the 1994/95 under 16 premiership team and was captain of the 2019/20 division three premiership team.
