What road works?: Despite there being no road works happening, speed restriction signs have Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan asking questions.

In parliament recently, he called on the Minister for Roads Melissa Horne for answers on when the road would be repaired.

“When will the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road near Simpson be resurfaced and made safe?” he asked.

“Again, you have sent correspondence to constituents advising them that you have proudly made the road safe by lowering a 100 km speed limit to 40 km.

“Treating country people with such disrespect – lowering the speeds of our roads because you do not have the finances, do not have the resources and do not have the management plans to adequately look after our roads is no solution to country road problems.”

Mr Riordan said the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road was an “important road”.

“There have been multiple accidents over the last 18 months,” he said.

“The community is tired of the lack of care for this road. It needs repair.

“Minister, when will it be repaired? And please do not tell us you are keeping the speed limit at 40 km indefinitely.”

After yet another accident at the stretch of road, the speed limit was lowered to 40km in late June, early July. However, the limit was again revised and increased to 60km.

Ironically, the speed limit signage also includes ‘road works ahead’ signage despite their being clearly no roadworks happening on the section of road any time soon.

Hundreds of residents signed a petition calling for action on the road which has so far fallen on deaf ears.
