Welcome: Corangamite Shire mayor Ruth Gstrein welcomed a roads funding commitment if the Liberals are re-elected at the coming election.

IF re-elected later this month, the Morrison Government has pledged an additional $3.2 million for vital road upgrades in the Corangamite Shire.

Member for Wannon Dan Tehan made the commitment on Monday while announcing funding in the Moyne Shire.

He said together with co-investment from the Corangamite Shire Council, this would represent nearly $4 million of additional investment to improve local roads.

Under the commitment, roads which could benefit were Noogee Road, Terang, Roycrofts Road, Boorcan and Darlington-Terang Road, Glenormiston North.

Mr Tehan said the Federal Government was working with local governments across Wannon to fund “important local road improvement projects”.

“The Corangamite Shire upgrades will make driving safer, more efficient and reduce wear and tear on vehicles,” he said.

“The Morrison Government is working in partnership with local authorities to deliver road improvements that will make a big difference to the communities that use these roads.

“Delivering better roads with more federal funding for local roads and highways is part of my plan for Wannon.”

Mr Tehan said the promised additional funding for road upgrades would support local businesses and farmers by improving the freight network, ensuring farmers can get their produce to market and businesses can deliver their products to customers.

“The road works will also support local jobs and provide opportunities for local suppliers,” he said.

“Only a re-elected Morrison Government will continue to invest strongly in regional Australia.

“Our government’s road upgrades in Wannon will complement our investment in the road and rail networks in the region, including vital local projects such as Prince Highway West upgrades, Warrnambool rail line upgrade and dairy supply chain roads.”

Corangamite Shire mayor Ruth Gstrein welcomed the funding pledge.

She said council had been advocating for funding to improve the roads in question because they were high priorities for the community.

“Roads are always a major issue for the safety of our residents and visitors to our region, as well as the ability of our farmers and freight companies to do business,” Cr Gstrein said.

“This funding will allow us to deliver some really significant projects that we would not have been able to complete otherwise.

“Ahead of the federal election later this month council calls on all Wannon candidates to match the commitment to ensure these projects are delivered.”
