Rural vote boost for Tehan
THE Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has officially certified the results for the Division of Wannon, with Dan Tehan holding a marginal grasp on the seat after almost a month of counting ballots.

THE Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has officially certified the results for the Division of Wannon, with Dan Tehan holding a marginal grasp on the seat after almost a month of counting ballots.
The result comes as no surprise after independent challenger Alex Dyson conceded the race on May 31, but the official tally had not been certified until last Friday.
Mr Tehan won the seat with a two candidate preferred count of 53.92 per cent, narrowly topping Dyson’s 46.08 per cent.
The result pushes Wannon in to marginal territory for the first time since Malcolm Fraser won the Liberal stronghold in 1955.
Mr Tehan said it was “both humbling and a great honour to continue serving the peopleof Wannon”.
“As your local Member, I am committed to representing the over 300 communities that make up our great electorate and every person who resides in them,” he said.
“I will continue to work tirelessly with you to further improve our communities and to deliver my plan for Wannon: better roads and rail; strengthening our economic recovery; delivering regional services; protecting our environment; and delivering community projects.”
Mr Tehan said a lot had been achieved during his time as Wannon MP, and he looked forward to continuing to work for the region.
“From a lifesaving cancer care centre to world leading research on hydrogen and so much more, which I will continue to update you on,” he said.
“Working together we will continue to make our communities stronger.”
Data from the AEC showed Tehan dominated the first preference count, finishing with 44.46 per cent to independent candidate Alex Dyson (19.29) and Labor’s Gilbert Wilson (19.09).
However, preferences pushed the incumbent to the brink. Tehan held firm with a continued run of success in the more rural areas of the electorate, which helped tip the scales in his favour.
AEC data from individual polling places showed Tehan held a solid favour across the two-candidate preferred vote in regional areas including:
• Camperdown – Tehan 58.20, Dyson 41.80;
• Derrinallum – Tehan 64.04, Dyson 35.96;
• Lismore – Tehan 63.88, Dyson 36.12;
