MORTLAKE had two teams remaining in the WDPA men’s pairs championships at Dennington last Sunday.

Congratulations to Darren Grant and Colin Goldsworthy, and Kevin Johnson who played with honorary Laker Barry Bowen.

Darren and Colin met up with J and P Ellis from Koroit and despite a fightback to potentially draw the match, they fell short by one shot.

This was a great effort by them both.

Kevin and Barry played against M Fleming and B O'Rourke From City Memorial BC and were able to secure their place in the final against the Ellis’ from Koroit.

In the final, Kevin and Barry tried their best but couldn't contain the Ellis factor.

Well done to the 2023-24 WDPA men’s pairs runners-up Kevin Johnson and Barry Bowen.

In pennant news, round five of the midweek pennant was played due to the Melbourne Cup on the Tuesday.

The results were as follows:

Mortlake Purple (div.3) def. Warrnambool Green 31-13 (away).

V Smith def. K Brockett 31-13; A van Diemen def. H Smits 30-17.

Mortlake Green (div.4) has a bye for the round.

Weekend pennant action kicked off last Saturday and here are the results:

Mortlake Blue (div.1) def. City Gold 65-61 (away).

D Grant def. G Davey 22-14; G Draffen def. B Collie 30-14; L Johnson lost to L Cook 31-33.

Mortlake White (div.2) lost to City White 47-64 (home).
A Wentworth lost to P Cooke 12-19; M Heard drew P Symmons 22 all; J Rasmussen lost to K Bell 13-23.

Mortlake Gold (div.4) def. Warrnambool Orange 54-30 (home).

V Smith def. B Hawker 20-11; D Murray def. S Selman 34-19.

Due to early newspaper deadlines, there are no teams available for publishing for the following week.

Players are urged to check the selection board at the clubrooms or look on BowlsLink under the relevant division and competition.

Players with access to email will get a copy of the sides once they become available.

The women’s 100 Up final and the women’s A grade final were played last Sunday and both contests matches were tight with no quarter given at any point.

In the women’s 100 Up final, Lyn O'Shannessy played Val Smith.

Congratulations to the women’s 100 Up champion Lyn, also well done to the runner-up Val Smith.

In the A grade final, Harmony Rasmussen played Sandra Richie.

Congratulations to the women’s A grade champion, Sandra Richie, and well fought to Mortlake's youngest A grade runner-up Harmony Rasmussen.

This match went right down to the wire and could have gone either way.

With the match lasting approx. three hours, this was a hard-fought battle and the crowd spectating were thoroughly entertained.

Just a reminder that the club is looking for players to help raise money for Mortlake RSL on Sunday, November 26.Everyone welcome and please help the club support a good cause.
