Satisfaction with council remains high

COMMUNITY satisfaction with Moyne Shire Council has remained well above the state and large rural shire averages, according to the results of the latest annual survey.

Residents rated council’s overall performance at 60, which is consistent with last year’s survey and higher than the state average of 54 and the large rural council average of 50.

Residents also rated Moyne’s value for money (55), overall council direction (48) and customer service (69) above both averages.

Appearance of public areas was the highest rated area, with a score of 72, which was again above both the state and large rural averages.

Waste management, recreational facilities and emergency and disaster management were the next highest, rated at 71.

Mayor Ian Smith said Moyne had performed above or equal to the state average and the large rural shire averages in 21 of 23 areas.

“We’ve also seen a significant increase when compared to last year in two key areas, with both consultation and engagement and recreational facilities increasing four points,” he said.

“It’s a good result, we have held steady overall and it’s fantastic to see the work of our teams being recognised in these results.

“It’s also pleasing to see elderly support services rated highly which reaffirms our decision to continue providing those services.

“The survey gives us a good marker of how the community view our work and where we need to improve, and our teams are now working on action plans to not only maintain these scores, but to improve them.”

Cr Smith said the condition of sealed and unsealed roads remained a low point and required an even greater focus.

“It was great to see a one-point increase on sealed roads, but both sealed and unsealed roads were still under the state and large rural averages,” he said.

“We have more than 2000 kilometres of roads under our control and our teams are working hard to prioritise where we prioritise our work.

“The results have also shown there is an opportunity for improvement in the Mortlake area, respondents from that postcode rated us lowest so we will look at how we can work on improving in that area of the shire.”
