On Sunday, dozens of visitors from across the region descended on the mount to enjoy a trek to the top and barbecue lunch, which was provided by members from the Lions Club.

Mortlake Lions Club president Heather Rowe said the club was thrilled with the turnout on the day.

“This is only the second time we’ve hosted the walk up the mount,” she said.

“We did it about five years ago and everyone quite enjoyed it, but the COVID-19 pandemic threw a spanner in the works.

“We do it every couple of years and people seem to enjoy the opportunity to climb a great Mortlake landmark.”

Mrs Rowe said the success of the event would see funds flow to causes locally.

“It’s private property, which people normally can’t walk up, so everyone is keen when they get the chance,” she said.

“We thank landowners for allowing us to climb up.

“The funds we raised go straight back to the community, such as the Mortlake Christmas Carols which this year will be held on Friday, December 13.”
