The auction is the major fundraiser for the St Thomas’ Primary School Parents and Friends Committee.

Fundraiser coordinator Melissa Irving said the committee has traditionally held a raffle but this year wanted shake things up by hosting an auction with a twist.

“We’ve changed it to diversify this year and keep interest, so we’ve gone with a goods and services auction,” she said.

“We’ve twisted it a little bit and put it online, so it’s currently open for bidding with over 110 items available.

“On Friday, October 18 the online auction will close at 12noon, and then the following night there will be a live face-to-face event.

“Bidding will then kick off at the live auction from where it finished online, so any bids made online will set where the bidding starts on auction night.

“If someone wants to bid higher, they can, and if not, the online bid will win the item.”

The auction features a range of goods and services which have been generously donated from local organisations, businesses and families.

“We can’t thank them enough for their support,” Ms Irving said.

“Businesses are slammed every year for donations, but to still put their hand up and support us is absolutely amazing.

“We’re so thankful for all of them, and for them to support us knowing what we’re fundraising for is incredible.”

All funds raised from the auction will go towards resurfacing the undercover area which plays host to school assemblies, special occasions such as the annual big breakfast, and is utilized as a play space during wet weather.

The years of wear and tear have resulted in the erosion of the surface, so the plan to revitalise is an exciting opportunity for the wider school community to refurbish the space which so often has been used to bring everyone together.

The new surface is expected to include line markings for a range of games including pickleball, four-square and hopscotch, promoting good health and socialisation for students for years to come.

“We’re grateful to anyone helping to support our little school, and our efforts to give the undercover area a bit of a facelift,” she said.

“We’ve already raised more than $17,000, which is an incredible result.”

The auction is currently open for online bidding at https://www.32auctions.com/STPS2024?r=1&t=all.

The online portion of the auction will end from 12noon on Friday, October 18.

The auction will then resume on Saturday, October 19 when St Thomas’ Primary School hosts its Auction Night, which will be held at St Thomas’ Primary School – with registration available on arrival.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the live auction to start from 7pm.

Those attending the live auction are asked to bring their own drinks and nibbles.
