Search for young veterans
CAMPERDOWN’S RSL will hold an open day in the clubrooms at 14 Pike Street on Sunday, March 3.

CAMPERDOWN’S RSL will hold an open day in the clubrooms at 14 Pike Street on Sunday, March 3.
The day will run from 10am to 3pm.
President of the Camperdown RSL Alan Fleming said the RSL are extending a warm welcome for the community to come along and view their extensive display, get assistance with family military history, or view their Veteran Cemetery Register, which has already passed 400 names.
“We are continuing to research names for the register and ask the community for details of family or friends who served in the Australian forces who are interred in Camperdown Cemetery,” he said.
Mr Fleming is putting out a special call to veterans and their families, saying it is important for the RSL to meet young veterans in order to continue and fulfil their aim.
“The biggest thing in the present time is we don’t have knowledge of very many young veterans in the area,” he said.
“All our members are getting on, and there’s a big gap.
“The money we raise at the ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day appeals is specifically to go to helping veterans and their families when they need it, and our biggest problem is we’re not sure of how many of the younger veterans we’ve got in the area.
Mr Fleming said he knows of the community’s support, and has seen good responses for the ANZAC and Remembrance Day appeals.
“What we’re asking for is to have anyone that knows of a veteran in the area, or are veterans in the area just to make themselves known,” he said.
There will also be an annual meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, March 7 at the clubrooms, with the community welcome.
