Former resident Leon Herviou, now 89 and based in Belmont, sent Western District Newspapers the original copy of the photograph in the hopes of sharing a piece of local history with readers.
“Examining documents of my late wife, I discovered this old photograph which I imagine relates to a past debutante ball in Terang many, many years ago,” he said.
“I do know the third person on the right on the bottom row is my brother in law, Albert ‘Billy’ Blain, formerly of Dixie and now deceased.
“My late wife was Irene Blain of Dixie, sister of Mrs Jessie Twaddle of Terang and great aunt of Mrs Helen Moloney of Camperdown.”
Mr Herviou said he hoped readers might recognise their forebears.
“I felt it (the photograph) had some history that I was reluctant to discard,” he said.
