Second last round of pennant
THE second last round of the pennant season was enjoyed by Camperdown bowlers last Saturday.
Camperdown 1 and 2 played at home, and the combined side Camperdown/Lismore travelled to Colac and played Central 3.
Pip Robertson, Russell and Judy won the first end of the game and kept in front all day.
On the eighth end they were 10-7 up and on the 16th they were 17-15.
They didn’t let the opposition score on the last five ends so the winning margin was 25-15.
On rink number two Gwenda Shaw was the skipper, with Donna and Noel.
They had a slow start and on the sixth end scored for the first time, 1-8.
On the sixteenth they were only 5-22 but to the team’s credit they won four of the last five ends going down 12-26.
The last rink of Lyn, John and Mal had a close game.
On the eighth end the score favoured Camperdown/Lismore 8-3.
By the 16th Lyn’s rink was in front, leading 15-13.
They only scored on three ends in the last five to go down by one shot, 18-19.
Next week they play Camperdown Golf 4 at the Lakes and the teams are:
L. Brown (s), D. Noonan, J. Trotter and M. McGrath.
P. Robertson (s), K. Henderson, R. McCall and J. Borthwick.
P. O’Halloran (s), B. Sloetjes, G. Bradshaw and N. Pemberton. Manager: L. Brown.
Camperdown 2 played Colac 4 at home and had a great day in beautiful sunny conditions with hardly any wind for a change.
On rink nine Paul Brebner’s team of Les, Graeme and Peter started off well, leading 11-2 on the seventh end.
They continued to dominate leading 16-9 on the 12th and scoring on eight of the last nine ends to win 30-12.
Ron Absalom’s rink started off 5-0 but by the sixth end the score was 5-all.
Then six-all on the eighth, 8-all on the tenth and 11-all on the 16th.
But the ever-reliable team that has won 10 games out of 14 did not disappoint and won its 11th game, 20-15.
Tom Hose, David, Jimmy and Gordon had a day to remember.
On the seventh end they were 21-1, by the 14th they had increased their lead to 34-6 and by the end they had a 35 shot win, 44-9.
The last rink of the day was fill-in skipper Gerard Noonan, Michael, Jimmy and Debbie and they had a tough battle.
It was nine-all on the eighth end, then 13-20 down on the unlucky number 13 end; 22-20 on the 16th.
With five ends to go both teams scored four shots each which saw Gerard’s team hold on and win 26-24.
The last round next week won’t see the top four teams slip out but could see positions change.
Second team City 3 play third placed Colac 3.
If Derrinallum 1 beat Lorne 2 they could move to fifth spot if Camperdown 2 loses to Simpson 2 who are fourth on the ladder but two games clear of fifth spot.

Luke’s rink played Jason Laird and by the ninth end was down 8-14.
Luke’s team fought hard and by the 19th end led 23-22.
With the last five ends being the most important, they won four of the last five ends and won 33-26.
Burger’s rink played Rhys Jeffs. This game was always going to be a high pressure one.
On the ninth end Camperdown led 8-6 but by the 19th Winchelsea had mastered the green better and led 14-22.
The last five ends Camperdown won on three of them but only singles, which wasn’t enough and the team was defeated 19-25.
The third rink saw Darren Coverdale step up and skip against Jason Armstrong.
On the ninth end Darren’s team had only scored on three ends and were down 3-13.
To the team’s credit they picked up a seven on one end and were 13-22 down by the 19th.
In the last five ends they scored on two ends and held the opposition to low scores to only go down by five shots, 22-27.

The last rink was between Ron Cameron and Stewart Williams.
Ron’s rink led 7-5 on the ninth. They only scored on three ends out of the next nine which saw the lead go to Winchelsea 11-20.
They picked up four shots on the next three to be only 15-20 down with three ends to go.
Winchelsea won the last three ends and the game 15-23.
