Shire approves latest round of funding
CORANGAMITE Shire councillors unanimously approved a funding allocation for program designed to create social connections through storytelling, music and food.
Councillors approved a $2000 allocation under the Business Assistance Scheme for multi-disciplinary creative arts production company A is for Atlas to deliver its August production of Dining Room Tales.
The program “delivers food and art in a specific, relational, slow-time manner, bringing the community together through meaningful contact with both friends and strangers through diversity and creativity”.
As mover of the motion, councillor Geraldine Conheady said she was happy to support the recommendation and praised the Business Assistance Scheme as having been “an immensely popular program”.
“So many community organisations have benefitted from that over the years,” she said.
“I really love how this scheme builds capacity and supports innovation and enterprise in our community.
“That’s the intent, and I think that’s exactly what this is doing. It’s so encouraging for our businesses and creatives to know that this kind of support is available.
“I don’t know if anyone has been to Dining Room Tales, but it’s really fun and a different kind of entertainment, and it’s terrific the business assistance scheme can support that kind of innovation with the shire.”
The funding delivered under the Business Assistance Scheme is designed to enable council to support local businesses, community enterprises and creative industries through the $90,000 allocation under the 2024-2025 budget.
This allocation is delivered under the Creative Industries and Placemaking stream, which allows council to support and build the capacity of entrepreneurs, creatives and established businesses to create and deliver inclusive and vibrant projects in public spaces or areas which are accessible to the public
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the recommendation to allocate the funding.
