CORANGAMITE Shire stood in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community last week when the community flagpole at the Camperdown Courthouse.
The Rainbow flag, the international symbol for the LGBTQIA+ community, was raised last Wednesday.
Corangamite Shire councillors and staff were in attendance for the flag raising.
The raising of the rainbow flag coincided with the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
Shire mayor Ruth Gstrein said council raised the flag on our community flag pole to raise awareness and help spread the word and the message of inclusion.
“This is not tokenistic, it is a genuine gesture to reach out and let the LGBTQIA+ community know that Corangamite Shire supports a world free from discrimination,” she said.
