Simpson housing plan progress

THE permit to subdivide 86 new residential lots on private land at Princetown Road, Simpson was approved last week.

The approval marks a major step towards developing new housing in Simpson.

Corangamite Shire Council mayor Kate Makin said the site was well-placed to become a successful residential housing development - the largest in the town’s history.

“This site is the heart of dairy country, very close to major tourism developments along the Great Ocean Road, and is right in the middle of the area with the youngest average age population in our shire,” she said.

“Demand for housing workers remains very high.”

Cr Makin said significant work had gone into the Unlocking Housing project over the past 18 months.

“The land has been rezoned, with all the technical and planning groundwork for a housing estate completed,” she said.

The permit has been provided to the landowner, who is now able to consider options and next steps.

“We have got the ball rolling in Simpson and the site is now there for the landowner and a developer to pick up and run with,” Cr Makin said.

“Council has also provided information to the landowner on moving forward and seeking an expression of interest for a development partner.

Infrastructure needed at the site would include sewerage, water mains, roads, kerb and channel and drainage, fire services, power and telecommunications.

The Unlocking Housing Simpson Project Community Reference Group will meet on Wednesday (today).

Cr Makin thanked members of the Simpson community for their involvement in the project.

“We wish to thank everyone who has supported this project, getting it to a stage of having an approved plan of subdivision,” she said.
