SIMPSON hit the Corangamite Bowls Division’s winners’ list for the first time this season last Saturday.

The Tigers narrowly defeated Camperdown Golf 89-84 in a tight affair

Two of the four rinks of play ended in draws, while the other two were won by only a handful of shots.

Peter Inglis’ ensured the points went to Simpson, with his quartet defeating Craig Skene’s four 24-20.

Leigh Mahoney’s rink also recorded a victory, with his team defeating Gary Body 26-25.

Cobden is still searching for its first victory with the Cockatoos suffering a 10 shot defeat to Colac City at Cobden.

The Cockatoos were outclassed by City three rinks to one, with Darren Mulgrew’s rink the only shining light for the home side.

His quartet recorded its second win of the season as it defeated Stewart Trigg 24-16.

The Thornton Street-based club was best served by Ron Cameron’s rink, which scored a 41-14 triumph over Peter Steven.

Colac (1) also extended its win ledger to two with a 97-89 victory over Colac (2).

The match was similar to Camperdown Golf-Simpson, with three of the four rinks decided by less than five shots and the other ending in a draw.

Colac Central recorded its first win of the campaign in the final match, with the Hornets easily defeating Apollo Bay.

Central won all four rinks in the 37 shot victory, with Ron Chapman’s 12 shot triumph over Grant McLaren the best of the rink results.

This weekend will see a double header played, with games set down for both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, Lorne hosts Apollo Bay, Colac City welcomes Camperdown, Colac (2) takes on Cobden, Simpson faces Colac (1) and Camperdown Golf meets Colac Central.

The following day sees Apollo Bay clashing with Colac City, Camperdown battling Colac (2), Colac Central facing Lorne, Cobden challenging Simpson and Colac (1) playing Camperdown Golf.

Meanwhile, Timboon Gold’s finals aspirations were slightly dented at Timboon last Saturday.

Geoff Bedggood was the sole Timboon skipper to claim victory, with his rink defeating Michael McCallum 20-13.
